DE KLIMROTS
For the green park Raoul Wallenberg in Gouda was a call for proposals to design a wall painting as a memorial for The Second World War and the destiny of the Jewish children.
We proposed De Klimrots, an installation about the perception of users in public space.
De Klimrots enforces the historical architecture, and vice versa the façade functions as a monumental décor for the new volume.
De Klimrots is to be climbed on. The climbing net of ropes envelopes the wooden staircase.
It can be used by anyone, but is especially intended for kids.
By climbing it, children learn playfully to discover a sense of freedom.
The highest platform facilitates a wonderful view on the garden, the church, the green park, and a view on the window from where the Jewish girl Edith Roseij Beek watched the children play.
It directs to the past. It is a moment to be reminded how the Jewish girl once has viewed from her window in the doctor’s house.
While ascending one can read the poem of Inez Meter in the stairs
